Description

Intoxicating aromas of rich curries and earthy cumin, and breathtakingly romantic ambiance with dark wood walls, jewel-like tapestries, intricate artwork and warm lighting at Indian Palate Restaurant seduce you. But it's the authentic cuisine and genuinely superlative service that invite you to return again and again.

Chef/owner Jay Mariadoss was trained in his hometown of Chennai, on the southeast coast of India, and honed his culinary skills throughout his native country, the Cayman Islands and South Beach before finding his own place in beautiful Coral Gables, complete with a huge tandoori brick oven which is strategically placed in the main dining hall so you can almost believe you’re in India. This is the vehicle which bakes that heavenly puffy naan bread and tandoori specialties. Chef Jay even roasts and grinds whole spices flown in directly from India for his Masala for each dish, adapted from his mother's recipes. The result is a spectacular fusion of flavors from all 21 regions of India. The menu ranges from vibrant versions of street snacks (chaats) to elegant royal (Mughlai) dishes.

The sumptuous lunch buffet is a colorful display of regional specialties featuring Chutneys, Sev (chickpea-flour vermicelli), and Crab Fritters (pakoras) with Shrimp and Calamari. Tandoori Quail, many South Indian vegetarian selections and fragrant biryani (basmati rice steamed in spices with bone-in pieces of chicken) are presented for dinner. Goan, a delicate fish curry with sour plum, goes well with stewed black lentils called Dal Makhani. Try a crisp wine or an exotic Indian beer to enhance these exotic flavors.

The professional staff attends very well, but it is Chef Jay and his partner who make guests leave thinking one word, ‘Wow!’ The spirit of giving of one’s culture, belongings and knowledge is very much alive and burning here, leaving no doubt that the rest of the world has a long way to go in catching up with India’s brand of hospitality.
